5 Savings Tips and Tricks That Won’t Break the Bank This Winter

25 MAY 2023

The winter chill is slowly setting in, and activities and weekends outdoors are becoming a distant summer memory. With the added time spent indoors we start to see that power bill creeping up, but don’t let winter catch you unprepared this year. We’ve put together some savings tips and tricks to help you keep warm without breaking the bank this winter.

1. Shop your local Supermarkets deals
You don’t have to tell us how much groceries have gone up, we feel you! But your local supermarkets offer daily deals and specials to help make shopping less of a financial strain. Shop the deals first to get the most for your money.

2. Cook cozy Slow Cooker dinners
There’s nothing quite like a warm, hearty meal on a chilly winter evening  - not only are they cozy and delicious, they’re also more budget friendly than using the oven or stovetop every night. Some of our #superstaff personal favourites include topside roast beef, balsamic and tomato lamb with mash and peas, creamy tomato chicken or if you’re feeling something sweet, you can’t beat a self-saucing pudding.

3. Work your heaters smarter, not harder
When the night-time chill kicks in, we know how tempting it is to crank up the heater, but double tip for you  - not only will keeping the heater at a steady heat (the recommended is between 18  - 21 degrees) save you money, but it’s also better for your health, helping you both prevent unnecessary expenses and unwanted colds.

4. Look into your power companies benefits
It might surprise to know some power companies offer up to three hours of power, free! We’ve done a bit of research for you and found that Electric Kiwi and Contact Power are two of the many companies that provide power-saving options for you. Contact your power provider to learn more and make use of  your daily power hour(s) for those more costly tasks like drying a load of washing, warming up electric blankets or getting that load of dishes sorted.

5. Consider taking out a Secured Loan
Secured Loans are an affordable option that can help you to manage some of those short-term bill increases. With no hidden costs and just a fixed monthly interest charge, there’s no surprises when it comes to taking out and paying off a secured loan.

When bills pile up, we’re here to help, so don’t let them catch you off guard this winter. Come see one of our friendly teams or chat with us today so we can help you keep warm, and ready to tackle this winter.
