28 JUNE 2023
There’s no denying it, Winter has well and truly set-in and it’s quickly feeling like it’s time to hide out under the covers while we wait for summer to return. We’ve already shared our top 5 savings tips and tricks - now let’s look at how you can bring a bit of that summer joy, into your winter.
1. Learn something new
Maybe you’ve wanted to learn Te Reo, try your hand at sewing, or are looking to become the next master chef in your kitchen? Well, now’s your time! With the convenience of the internet and the endless resources it has to offer, it’s easier than ever to kickstart your new skill. Don’t let excuses hold you back - seize the opportunity to tick off one of those revolving new year resolutions!
2. Winter roadie
We may be a small country, but there’s so much to do during the chillier months and with school holidays on the horizon, now’s the time! From hot springs to sky diving, Taupo’s guaranteed to provide something for everyone, or head over to somewhere like Ohakune to spend the week shredding it up on the slopes. If you’re lucky enough to trek down south, check out Queenstown or Wanaka and see for yourself what all the fuss is about (trust me, the fuss is worth it)!
3. Explore local
We know roadies don’t come cheap (thanks rising fuel costs) so explore your hometown and experience all the local fun on offer. For those Windy Wellingtonians, Staglands, Zealandia, the Adrenalin Forest or Capital E are just some of the must-dos with the family. For our friends up in the Hawkes Bay, you can’t go wrong with a day wining and dining, visiting the National Aquarium or local Farmyard Zoo, and if you don’t mind a short drive, head up to Wairoa and kick back at the Morere hot springs.
4. Movie marathon
Hear us out, if you move from the bed to the couch, it doesn’t count as spending the day hiding out under the covers, right? With so many streaming options, movie marathons are easier than ever (long gone are the days of 5 for $5 from the video store) so why not turn it into something for the whole family to enjoy? Just grab the snacks and you’re away!
5. Get your ‘spring cleaning’ done early
Don’t wait until the suns shining again to start tackling your spring cleaning. Take advantage of the hibernation time and get your spring cleaning done early. Not only will you go into the summer feeling refreshed, but you’ll also have more time up your sleeve to make the most summer when it does roll back around.
